Angel was the spin-off show of Joss Whedon's successful TV show 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. Angel (and Cordelia and Wesley) left Sunnydale and setup shop in LA; Los Angeles - City of Angels (hence the first episode 'City of').
Here they ran a supernatural detective agency and fight against the villainous law firm Wolfram and Hart.
