4th November 2006 Harrods, Knightsbridge, London Saturday - Brenda (my fiancé's mother and I go Beanie Hunting) |
| BACK HOME |
| 5:50am | We get up ready to start our
day. |
| 6:15am | We leave home in
South-East London, to make our way into central London, on the Jubilee line
and then the Piccadilly line, all of which are luckily running well. |
| 7:15am | We arrive
outside Harrods in Knightsbridge - we're right in front of the door this
year, first in the queue. A few people wander past and tell us we should be
at door five, but we stick with seven so that we can see the parade!! We are delighted to find the snow generators are back, and that it is
snowing in the Brompton Road again, just as it says on the flyer "we
guarantee it will snow"! |
| 8:30am | Here comes the
Christmas parade, headed by a marching band followed by vintage cars
containing the pop band 'Girls Allowed' - also a good lot of dancers, lots
of people in Christmas outfits; the little group of reindeer and their
handlers, and of course - finally - Santa Claus himself. |
| 9:15am | The doors open
late as the 'Girls Allowed' were being shown round - our door-man is very
patient with the crazy collectors, there is the usual stampede up to the Toy
Kingdom on the 5th floor. Luckily we know where we are going this year - and
get there a bit quicker. |
| 9:20am | We join another
queue. The queue is not in the same place as last year, but instead comes
through children's clothes (no toys to play with) and arrives into Soft Toys
direct! We don't seem to move at all! |
| We see the giant
black Harrods bear walk past. A Harrod's employee comes up the queue to show
off Henry, Charles and Digby! |
|
| 10:10am | We enter the toy
department, and discover this is almost the front of the
queue! Not only have we the opportunity to purchase Charles, Henry and Digby; but there are also the Christmas
releases, Hamish and the Beatrix Potter Beanies. |
| 10:15am | We reach the
counters - there are more counters than last year! The signs before the
counters informed us that it was 12 Charles, 6 Henry, 6 Digby and 1 of each
boxed... per customer! Phew. Managed to get all the extras for my trades! |
| We pass through
the 'Children's Theatre' on the way out, where we know from last year that
there are plenty more Beanies about . We pick up a few more there! |
|
| 10:20am | We leave Harrods - satisfied customers! |
