BEANIE BABY
OF THE MONTH (2003 - 2007)
|
|
Beanie Baby of the Month appeared on the Ty Website in November 2002. The Beanie Baby of the Month club promised, for $5 a month (plus s&h) an exclusive Beanie Baby delivered directly to your door. Although collectors were warned at the outset that not every bear would be a bear there is still much disappointment amongst collectors that so few of the collection have been bears. The first two years exactly half of each collection were bears, however in the third year there were only two bears, and in the fourth year three bears. However year five is off to a good start for bear fans with two out of three already bears! Sparkles was introduced as the Beanie for January. Although there was a deadline to sign up and receive Sparkles, the scheme is still available to join at anytime, and receive the next Beanie Baby of the Month. BBOM (the now standard abbreviation) wears a unique hang tag, bearing the BBOM logo. Sparkles also has a pin on his chest with the same logo. Sparkles is followed in February by Holmes (a dog), in March by Dreamer (a bear) and in April by Buttercream (a rabbit). Next in May came Cappuccino (a cat) and Virunga (a gorilla). In July two paths crossed as Decade (the 10th Anniversary bear) joined the ranks of BBOM in a startling hot pink. August brought Khufu the Camel, followed in September by Kippy (another dog). October and November brought two more bears - Popcorn and Comet respectively. The Year was rounded out by Tinsel the Dog. 2004 saw the next generation of Beanie Babies of the Month. The first was Jersey the Cow followed by Heartthrob the bear (for Valentines in February) and Peepers the Chick (for Easter). April brought the BBOM Thank You Bear (who wears the TY "thank you" heart on his chest, and is the only BBOM so far not to wear the BBOM pin), and May Sapphire the Bear. June brought us Countess the lady-bug and July saw another bear, Alani. August saw the introduction of Chompers the shark. September and October saw the introduction of two more dogs; Alps and Fireplug. November introduced the last bear of the year Astra (who is obviously closely related to 2003's Comet) and the year finished on a festive note with Greetings the Duck. BBOM began a third highly successful year with January's Fiddler the Cat and the Valentine's Day themed dog for February, Adonis. March saw the Easter themed BBOM - Fritters the Bunny. April brought Serenade the Robin. May and June saw the introductions of Breadcrumbs the Mouse and Trident the Sea-Horse respectively. In June the patience of collectors was finally rewarded with Founders the Bear. August brought Ramble, another dog. In September collectors were given a cat, Frisky. Patience was rewarded again in October with Pocus, a Bear (for Halloween, of course). November brought Stuffings the Turkey (ready for Thanksgiving) and the Year ended with Flicker the Mouse. 2006 sees the fourth series of BBOM. The year started with Icecubes the Bear (much to the delight of collectors) - and continued with a blue monkey bearing the name Zoomer... who has the distinction of being the last Beanie alphabetically. March brought and Easter themed Beanie, Billingham the Chick and April a rather pink horse, Canters. In May the collectors' favourite - another bear... Dabbles. Summer brought a water theme with Grumbles the Crab in June and Tortuga the Turtle in July. Autumn brought Clucky the Hen in August and Barklowe the Dog in September. October brought collectors another bear (at last), Scares the Bear looks like he is going on a Halloween holiday! As usual the November Beanie is Thanksgiving themed, Stuffed the Turkey. December brings the Christmas themed bear, Merriment. 2007 brings year five
of the BBOM. Chillton the polar bear is the first in this year's series.
The Valentine's themed BBOM in February was Snuggins the dog, and March
had Lot's O'Luck the Irish bear (for St Patrick's Day) instead of the
usual Easter themed Beanie. Lot's O'Luck has a shamrock on his chest,
and is the second BBOM not to wear the BBOM pin. April brought Palace
the Unicorn and May Marsh the Frog. June introduced Surfin' the Octopus,
another of the brightly coloured Beanies with flower prints (Sunburst,
Sunrise, et al.). July brought a 4th July themed Beanie, Fireworks the
Dog. August and September brought two more dogs, Picnic and Riggins. In
October there was another Halloween offering wiht Jinxed the cat and November
saw (of course) a Thanksgiving theme with Feastings the turkey. Puppy
Claus in December was the final Beanie Baby of the Month as the highly
successful programme was discountinued after five years. |
