TUSH TAG GUIDE - KNOW YOUR TAGS

First Generation  The original tush tags were black and white. These have a copyright date of 1993 or 1995. All first and second generation hang tags have a first generation tush tag. The country of origin is listed as Korea or China. The tag may or may not have the "CE" (European safety mark "Conformite Europeene")
Second Generation  There is a large red heart with 'Ty' inside and ® marked bottom left hand side. There is no Beanie name marked. The copyright date is 1993 or 1995, and the country of origin is still listed as Korea or China.
Third Generation  The heart is smaller to allow the insertion of the phrase 'The Beanie Babies Collection TM'. The name of the Beanie is now also included. Copyright dates on this tag are 1993, 1995 and 1996. These tags may include the spelling mistake "SURFRACE".
Fourth Generation  These are identical to third generation tush tags except for a small star to the upper left hand corner of the heart. This was added on a transparent sticker to the third generation tags before new tags were printed.
Fifth Generation (October 1997) These tag has many differences from previous generations. There is now ® added after the 'Beanie Babies' and TM added after the name of the Beanie. Copyright dates are 1993, 1995 or 1996.
Sixth Generation (January 1998)  The 'Beanie Babies Collection' is now followed by ®. Some tags will show the pellet type as 'PVC' and others as 'PE'. Newer versions of this tag also have a Chinese stamp inside to make it more difficult to produce counterfeit Beanies. Copyright dates on these tags are 1993, 1995 or 1998.
Seventh Generation (January 1999)  Featured on all releases since 1 January 1999 this tag introduces a morphing hologram above the Beanie's name. There is also the red heart on the reverse in heat-sensitive disappearing ink. There is no stamp inside these tags.
Eighth Generation (September 1999)  The eighth generation tag is a non-looped tag. There is still the morphing hologram and the heart in disappearing ink. All information is identical to the seventh generation tags.
Ninth Generation (March 2000)   This tag sees a return to the looped tag design. There is an eight digit alphanumeric code stamped on the inside. There is a new holographic design on this tag, the background to which is stars and hearts. There is still the Ty heart in disappearing ink on the back. The copyright date on this tag is 2000.
Tenth Generation (January 2001) There is yet another new, and even more complex, hologram on this tag, the background is now diagonal watermarks. The heart in disappearing ink remains on the back, as does the alpha-numeric code stamped inside the tag. The copyright date on this tag is 2000 or 2001.
Eleventh Generation (January 2002) The hologram on this tag has changed again. The hologram now shows a traditional type bear sitting holding a heart with "Ty" printed inside. The background is stars and hearts. The copyright date on this tag is 2001 or 2002.
Twelfth Generation (January 2003) The hologram on this tag has changed again. The hologram now shows a star with "Beanie Baby" printed inside which alternates with a slanted Ty logo. The copyright date is listed as 2002.
Thirteenth Generation (Summer 2003) the hologram has been removed from the tag. There is a foil red heart with "Ty" inside (similar in style to the 1st generation tag). There also is the Beanie's name below the heart. The "handmade in China" has moved to the back of the tag. The copyright year is listed as 2003.
Originally thought to be a fourteenth generation tag this variation appeared in 2004. This is the same as the previous tush tag but the foil heart is now plain print and has a gold "Ty" instead of a white "Ty". This tag appeared only briefly on a handful of Beanies, and has now reverted to the original design.

A further variation is for "Holy Father", who has a gold heart with a white Ty.
